Artist Talk: Kathy Svec: Words Illustrated – Green Hills Gallery
“Words Illustrated,” an art exhibition by Kathy Svec, is on display at the Green Hills Art Gallery until Tuesday, October 30.
Hours: Mon. – Fri., 8 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.
Sat, Sun, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Kathy will talk about her work on Tues., Oct. 1, at 3 p.m. in the Green Hills Community Room.
Kathy’s artworks showcase the beautiful words of authors she’s read. She handwrites the text and illustrates it with layered collages set into shadow-box frames or embellished boxes. Reading the words is an important part of experiencing her work as each piece tells a story. The works often feature small hand-bound books.Kathy has two art education degrees, taught high school art and worked for many years at the Iowa State Memorial Union managing their art-related programs (now retired). She has exhibited her work since 1978 and has evolved through several mediums before finding this one. She lives in Ames.
