Annual Lecture Series

Ames Oddities: A Pictorial Tour
Attend in person: Ames Public Library, 515 Douglas Ave.
Attend online: Register for the Zoom link
Free and open to the public
Speaker: Kathy Svec, museum volunteer, with help from Sharon Wirth, Bob Bourne, and Alex Fejfar

All around Ames are certain structures and features that are odd-looking, have a strange shape, or don’t seem to fit into the rest of their surroundings. Some are remnants of past landscape features, some were influenced by historic decisions that are hardly remembered in the current day. We’ll take a pictorial tour of these “oddities” and relate the fascinating and sometimes quirky reasons why these things are the way they are. Perhaps those “oddities” will make more sense and you’ll see our city with new eyes.

2025 Lecture Series presented in partnership by Ames History Museum and Ames Public Library.

More information about each lecture available on AHM’s website calendar. All lectures will be hybrid – attend in person at Ames Public Library or online via Zoom. Free and open to the public.

Tues., May 20, 2025 – 7 p.m.
