Art Mart Holiday Sale – The Workspace, MU Art Gallery

ART MART HOLIDAY SALE – Tues. – Fri., Dec. 2 – 5

The annual holiday art sale at the Memorial Union will be held Tues. Dec. 2 through Fri., Dec. 5 in the MU Art Gallery located on the 1st floor. Hours are Tues., 4 – 7 p.m., Wed., 11 a.m. – 4 p.m., Thurs., 11 a.m. – 7 p.m., and Fri., 11 a.m. – 9 p.m. (remaining open during WinterFest).

Featuring artists, makers, and crafters, our winter sale has something for everyone on your list! From budding creatives on campus to professional artists, you will find pottery, blown glass, jewelry, decor, accessories, and prints. Sales support individual artists, The Workspace, and the Gaffer’s Guild. This year’s artists will include:

  • Maureen Burke is an encaustic artist, creates ethereal works by applying melted colored wax to canvas, incorporating layered images and ephemera. She also makes beeswax food wraps, offering an eco-friendly alternative to single-use plastics.
  • John Burright is a woodturner who uses natively sourced lumber to make small decorative trees, snowmen, and animals. To truly appreciate the wood grain patterns, take a look at his handsome lidded boxes.
  • Sophie Chitty designs fun and vibrant stationery, including a variety of greeting cards, floral bookmarks, and eclectic stickers.
  • Jillian Dunlap’s earrings feature delicate dried florals, bright colors, funky beads, and an occasional sparkle.
  • Breanna Engelhardt’s functional pottery is accentuated by her use of various processes, including image transfers, painted underglaze, and high-fire glazes.
  • Judy Lemish uses retro-patterned fabrics in her tote bags, cozy felted wool in her pins, and fun bead parings in her earrings.
  • Hannah Lynch collected and upcycled crayons into bright, new, colors in fun shapes.
  • Truc Nguyen makes adorable animals, including stitched kawaii bunnies and frogs, and tiny clay cats to add a dash of cute to your planters.
  • Kat Schmidt is a painter and printmaker who uses vibrant inks, paints, and her self-described “delightfully off-kilter imagination.”
  • Rhonda Scott loves color, craft, and fun! Find glass and gemstone jewelry, marbled paper cards, handbound blank books, and upcycled journals. New ventures include marbled coasters and ornaments.
  • Anka Snider makes colorful, unique, beaded jewelry and crocheted hats focusing on quality in  items for everyday wear. Add a pop of art to your outfit!
  • Audrey Stirling is a metalsmith inspired by organic forms in nature. Her intricate wire wrapping  techniques incorporate gemstones, shells, and other found materials into her jewelry.
  • Hannah Tan crochets adorable roses that she makes into two useful little items – magnets and hair pins.
  • Karen Van Wert captures scenes of the Midwest available in mini prints and desk calendars. She is also talented maker of Kumihimo jewelry – a traditional Japanese braiding technique.
  • Hope Waggoner is a designer with a 3D-printed collection of articulated sea creatures, including axolotls and stingrays, sold as keychains or standalone fidgets.
  • Caroline Warren’s art is connected through her love of animals and nature. Her folk-style paintings are used to decorate hand-thrown pottery and printed on greeting cards, stickers, coloring books, and pillows.
  • Valerie Williams makes functional pottery under the moniker “Daily Dish”. Her pieces are the perfect size for morning coffee and cereal, enjoying a light lunch, or serving an evening dinner.
  • Gaffer’s Guild members are skilled in the art and science of glassblowing, producing a stunning array of vibrant pieces with everything from vases and beverage ware to ornaments, paperweights, and sculptures.
  • The Workspace has a mixed bag of fun additions to the event, including pottery from beginner students, buttons, and the ever-popular mystery boxes.

The Memorial Union is located at 2229 Lincoln Way on the Iowa State campus, and hourly parking is available in the ramp on the east side of the building.
