Gathering of Artists: Kathy Svec Assemblages at Gallery in the Round

The Gallery in the Round, located inside the Ames Unitarian Fellowship of Ames (1015 Hyland Ave.) will host the next Gathering of Artists on Tues., March 19 from 6 – 8 p.m., featuring the work of artist Kathy Svec. Kathy will offer some remarks at 6:30 p.m.

The work featured in this exhibit, Words Illustrated showcase the beautiful words of authors she’s read. She handwrites the text and illustrates it with layered collages set into shadow-box frames or embellished boxes. Reading the words is an important part of experiencing her work as each piece tells a story. The works often feature small hand-bound books.

Kathy has two art education degrees, taught high school art and worked for many years at the Iowa State Memorial Union managing their art-related programs (now retired). She has exhibited her work since 1978 and has evolved through several mediums before finding this one. She lives in Ames.

Artists and art enthusiasts of all types are invited to meet other artists, get feedback, get inspired and have fun at the monthly Gathering of Artists. The events are free and open to all. Refreshments are provided.
