SUMMARY:Slow Mass & The Casket Lottery w/ Moonlighting - ISU Student Union Board\, M-Shop
DESCRIPTION:Doors open at 7:30 p.m. | Show starts @ 8 p.m.\nTICKETS: $15 ($10 w/ ISU Student ID) in advance | $2 increase day-of-show \nGenre: rock\nFor fans of: Minus the Bear\, Low\, mewithoutYou\, Braid \nSLOW MASS\nSince forming in 2015\, Chicago’s Slow Mass has been committed to pushing its artistic vision forward at all costs. Though Slow Mass was previously built around a core lineup\, this has evolved into a fluid cast that has expanded to feature collaborators who are spread across the country. The current lineup consists of Evan Bernard\, Dave Collis\, Sean Hallock\, Emma McCall\, Josh Parks\, Josh Sparks\, and Mercedes Webb. \nAfter springing to life and releasing 2016’s Treasure Pains\, the band quickly got to work on its debut full-length\, 2018’s On Watch\, which garnered praise from the likes of Pitchfork and was named one of the best Chicago albums of the 2010s by the Chicago Reader. Following On Watch\, the band kept its nose to the grindstone\, touring with the likes of La Dispute\, Gouge Away\, mewithoutYou\, Horse Jumper of Love\, and delivering a host of new releases that each expanded upon the sounds Slow Mass had become known for. With the trio of EPs in the ongoing Music For Ears series and 2020’s Music For Rest\, they transformed their Fugazi-inspired post-hardcore propulsions into muted ruminations that could have fit on a modern Low album. \nBy blurring the lines between several different genres\, and allowing collaborators to float in and out of the band as desired\, Slow Mass has built a body of work that feels distinctly its own. With multiple new releases prepped for 2025 and beyond\, Slow Mass is ready to continue pushing the boundaries of what it means to be an indie rock band. \nTHE CASKET LOTTERY\nWith Feel The Teeth\, The Casket Lottery crafts an album that balances moments of triumphant energy with haunting\, atmospheric tension creating a sound that both uplifts and unsettles. The music feels like a journey through an emotionally complex landscape—at times\, bold and anthemic\, at others\, quiet and eerie—capturing the push and pull of struggle and revelation. \nLyrically\, Feel The Teeth explores the weight of a world that has shifted unexpectedly—personally\, politically\, and socially. It’s an album soaked in existential fatigue\, grappling with trauma and the search for meaning in a world that often feels beyond our control. \nThe interplay between the music’s triumphant highs and haunting lows mirrors this internal conflict\, creating a powerful tension between hope and disillusionment. \nTeeth\, both as a symbol and a motif\, represent pain\, survival\, and the scars we carry—whether they’re buried or exposed. Feel The Teeth is a raw\, defiant exploration of internal conflict and transformation\, challenging listeners to confront what’s lurking beneath the surface while still holding onto something real in the midst of uncertainty. \nMOONLIGHTING\nOttumwa\, IA alt-rockers Moonlighting will open the show! \nTICKETING NOTES: All sales are final | A 3% processing fee is applied to online purchases | All tickets are subject to a non-refundable $2 MidwesTIX service fee | Ticket prices increase $2 day-of-show | Each and every ISU student ticket will require a valid\, unique ISU student ID at the door to avoid an upcharge to the public price. \n— Proof of age required for alcohol purchases —\n    (selection of beer/wine/hard-seltzers available)

An incredible 25 of their 38 albums have been certified platinum\, and the band has a total of 48 gold and platinum awards. \nChicago have toured every year since the beginning – they’ve never missed a year. SUMMARY:Once Upon a Mattress - Story Theater Company
DESCRIPTION:Story Theater Company Presents Once Upon a Mattress\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMany moons ago in a far-off place\, Queen Aggravain decreed no couples could marry until her son\, Prince Dauntless\, found a bride. That is\, until the “shy” swamp princess\, Winnifred the Woebegone\, showed up. Would she be able to pass the Sensitivity Test\, marry her prince and help Lady Larken and Sir Harry to the altar? Carried on a wave of wonderful songs\, by turns hilarious and raucous\, romantic and melodic\, this rollicking spin on the classic tale The Princess and the Pea provides some side-splitting shenanigans. After all\, a princess is a delicate thing. \nPERFORMANCES\n\nFri.\, Nov. 7 and Fri.\, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m.\nSat.\, Nov. 8\, Sun.\, Nov. 9\, Sat.\, Nov. 15\, and Sun.\, Nov. 16 at 2 p.m.\n\nLocation: Ames City Auditorium: 520 6th St. \nTICKETS\nBecause we do not want ticket cost to be a barrier to enjoying our shows\, we are leaving it up to each patron to choose a ticket price that is a good fit for you. The suggested price is $15 per person. If that puts a strain on your finances\, please feel free to choose a lower price. SUMMARY:Once Upon a Mattress\, Youth Edition - Story Theater Company
DESCRIPTION:Story Theater Company presents Once Upon a Mattress\, Youth Edition\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMany moons ago in a far-off place\, Queen Aggravain decreed no couples could marry until her son\, Prince Dauntless\, found a bride. Princesses came from far and wide to win the hand of the prince\, but none could pass the impossible tests given to them by the Queen. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPERFORMANCES\n\nFri.\, Nov. If you are able to spend a bit more\, choosing a higher price will help support Story Theater Company. \n\nAll seats are general admission.\nTickets may be used at any performance.\nPick up your tickets when you arrive at the show. Tickets will not be mailed.\nTickets may be purchased at the door. We accept cash\, check\, or credit/debit.

SUMMARY:Reception: Future Forest: Digital Echoes - ISU College of Design\, Gallery 181
DESCRIPTION:Interdisciplinary artist Amenda Tate\, a 2023 Iowa State University integrated visual arts graduate and current PhD student in human computer interaction\, will unveil an interactive exhibition Nov. 10–13 at the ISU College of Design. \nIn “Future Forest: Digital Echoes\,” Tate invites visitors to wander through a paper-and-light ecosystem that reacts to presence — each visit changes the forest and every visitor leaves a trace. The installation\, a design research project for her PhD studies that also integrates knowledge gained through participatory practices in museum education\, will be on display beginning at noon Monday\, Nov. 10\, in the College of Design’s Gallery 181. \nRegular exhibition hours are 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. daily. A closing reception will be from 5 – 7 p.m. Thurs.\, Nov. 13. \nUsing both scientific and aesthetic processes\, Tate creates work that explores movement\, our relationship to technology and the understanding of what it means to be human\, including the ways in which “humanness” can be denied. She uses custom-designed technology\, traditional mediums and social interactions to foster connection. \nTate describes “Future Forest” as part ritual\, part experiment and part myth. In the artist statement accompanying the show\, she notes that visitors will experience interwoven stories that unfold out of order: “ ‘The Waxen Grove\,’ where ancestral spirits are preserved in wax and light; ‘The Translucent Shrine\,’ where machines resurrect belief; and ‘The Resonant Core\,’ where your movement becomes memory. Experience. Interact. Leave a digital echo.” \nSupport for the project has been provided by the Iowa Arts Council\, which exists within the Iowa Economic Development Authority. Follow the project’s progression at @futureforest_dsm on Instagram. \nAbout the artist\nTate received a master of fine arts in integrated visual arts from Iowa State in 2023. While pursing her PhD in human computer interaction\, she also serves as docent and tours program manager at the Des Moines Art Center. A 2019-2020 Iowa Arts Council Fellow\, she has work featured in the “State of the Arts: Iowa’s Artist Fellows” exhibition Nov. 7–29 at Mainframe Studios in Des Moines. She has been an artist-in-residence with the New York Mills Regional Cultural Center and Ballet Des Moines\, and her work has been published in The New York Times\, the Denver Post\, the Des Moines Register\, Better Homes & Gardens and Popular Science. \nAmong Tate’s honors are two Editor’s Choice Awards at the 2018 New York International Maker Faire and a special recognition award in the 2017 International RobotArt competition. She received a 2020 project grant and a 2021 Iowa Arts & Culture Resilience Grant\, both awarded by the Iowa Arts Council in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts. Her work is in the collections of Arrow Electronics\, The Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines and Banker’s Trust. \nContacts\nAmenda Tate\, PhD Student\, Human Computer Interaction\, atate@iastate.edu\nHeather Sauer\, Director of Strategic Communications\, College of Design\, hsauer@iastate.edu
