DESCRIPTION:Sat.\, Nov. 8 from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Sun.\, Nov. 9 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. \nMembers of the Iowa Bonsai Association will be displaying unique specimens from their own collections and answering questions from the public. \n\nJoin the Iowa Bonsai Association and their invited guest\, the Eastern Iowa Bonsai Association at Reiman Gardens as we showcase the art and horticulture of Bonsai. \nBonsai involves the cultivation and artistic shaping of trees\, creating a miniature version of a full-sized tree through careful pruning\, wiring\, and training. \nThe object is to create a harmonious and balanced bonsai as a living piece of art that can be viewed in every season. This year’s theme “Bonsai: Asia to America” showcases deciduous\, conifer and tropical trees as the growing season comes to an end and dormancy begins. \n**What to expect at the show: **\nThe Iowa Bonsai Association will showcase some of Midwest’s’ finest bonsai. You will also find bonsai and bonsai related items for sale from a vendor and the IBA bazaar sales table. \nIBA members will be available as docents to guide and answer questions regarding bonsai. \nSat.\, Nov. 8 from 1 – 3 p.m. There will be a formal demonstration in the auditorium. Four IBA members and a moderator will focus on seasonal work. \nSun.\, Nov. 9 from 1 – 3 p.m. IBA members will have informal demonstrations in the show area. \nPre-registration is not required. Free for Reiman Gardens members and ISU Students. SUMMARY:Once Upon a Mattress - Story Theater Company
DESCRIPTION:Story Theater Company Presents Once Upon a Mattress\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMany moons ago in a far-off place\, Queen Aggravain decreed no couples could marry until her son\, Prince Dauntless\, found a bride. That is\, until the “shy” swamp princess\, Winnifred the Woebegone\, showed up. Would she be able to pass the Sensitivity Test\, marry her prince and help Lady Larken and Sir Harry to the altar? Carried on a wave of wonderful songs\, by turns hilarious and raucous\, romantic and melodic\, this rollicking spin on the classic tale The Princess and the Pea provides some side-splitting shenanigans. SUMMARY:Slow Mass & The Casket Lottery w/ Moonlighting - ISU Student Union Board\, M-Shop
DESCRIPTION:Doors open at 7:30 p.m. | Show starts @ 8 p.m.\nTICKETS: $15 ($10 w/ ISU Student ID) in advance | $2 increase day-of-show \nGenre: rock\nFor fans of: Minus the Bear\, Low\, mewithoutYou\, Braid \nSLOW MASS\nSince forming in 2015\, Chicago’s Slow Mass has been committed to pushing its artistic vision forward at all costs. Though Slow Mass was previously built around a core lineup\, this has evolved into a fluid cast that has expanded to feature collaborators who are spread across the country. The current lineup consists of Evan Bernard\, Dave Collis\, Sean Hallock\, Emma McCall\, Josh Parks\, Josh Sparks\, and Mercedes Webb. \nAfter springing to life and releasing 2016’s Treasure Pains\, the band quickly got to work on its debut full-length\, 2018’s On Watch\, which garnered praise from the likes of Pitchfork and was named one of the best Chicago albums of the 2010s by the Chicago Reader. Following On Watch\, the band kept its nose to the grindstone\, touring with the likes of La Dispute\, Gouge Away\, mewithoutYou\, Horse Jumper of Love\, and delivering a host of new releases that each expanded upon the sounds Slow Mass had become known for. With the trio of EPs in the ongoing Music For Ears series and 2020’s Music For Rest\, they transformed their Fugazi-inspired post-hardcore propulsions into muted ruminations that could have fit on a modern Low album. \nBy blurring the lines between several different genres\, and allowing collaborators to float in and out of the band as desired\, Slow Mass has built a body of work that feels distinctly its own. With multiple new releases prepped for 2025 and beyond\, Slow Mass is ready to continue pushing the boundaries of what it means to be an indie rock band. \nTHE CASKET LOTTERY\nWith Feel The Teeth\, The Casket Lottery crafts an album that balances moments of triumphant energy with haunting\, atmospheric tension creating a sound that both uplifts and unsettles. The music feels like a journey through an emotionally complex landscape—at times\, bold and anthemic\, at others\, quiet and eerie—capturing the push and pull of struggle and revelation. \nLyrically\, Feel The Teeth explores the weight of a world that has shifted unexpectedly—personally\, politically\, and socially. It’s an album soaked in existential fatigue\, grappling with trauma and the search for meaning in a world that often feels beyond our control. \nThe interplay between the music’s triumphant highs and haunting lows mirrors this internal conflict\, creating a powerful tension between hope and disillusionment. \nTeeth\, both as a symbol and a motif\, represent pain\, survival\, and the scars we carry—whether they’re buried or exposed. Feel The Teeth is a raw\, defiant exploration of internal conflict and transformation\, challenging listeners to confront what’s lurking beneath the surface while still holding onto something real in the midst of uncertainty. \nMOONLIGHTING\nOttumwa\, IA alt-rockers Moonlighting will open the show! \nTICKETING NOTES: All sales are final | A 3% processing fee is applied to online purchases | All tickets are subject to a non-refundable $2 MidwesTIX service fee | Ticket prices increase $2 day-of-show | Each and every ISU student ticket will require a valid\, unique ISU student ID at the door to avoid an upcharge to the public price. \n— Proof of age required for alcohol purchases —\n    (selection of beer/wine/hard-seltzers available)
