SUMMARY:Gathering of Artists - Nathan Moore\, Ceramic Artist - Ames Community Arts Council
DESCRIPTION:Nathan Moore will host the Ames Community Arts Council’s monthly Gathering of Artists on Tues.\, June 17 from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Gallery of the Creative Artists’ Studios (CASA)\, located at 130 S. Sheldon Ave.\, Ames. Come to enjoy a reception for an exhibition titled Form//Line. There will be a short presentation by the artist at 7 p.m. Refreshments will be served. \nArtists and art enthusiasts of all types are invited to the Gatherings\, where they can meet other artists\, build community\, and have fun. The Gatherings are free and open to all.\nForm//Line is a ceramic sculpture exhibition by Moore that takes inspiration from the minimalism movement. \n“These sculptures are what minimalism promotes best\, simplicity. What they lack in color and other elements\, they make up for in thought-provoking lines and forms\,” said Moore in a written artist statement. “The clay\, which is a mix of porcelain and stoneware\, takes on shapes that might look industrial and geometric and possibly challenges ideas of how ceramics ought to be. The surface treatment of these pieces with silver\, grey\, rustic being the focus of the glazes reflect an industrial look that pairs with the geometric minimalism.” \nMoore is a ceramic artist and teacher whose studio is located in CASA and offers mobile pottery workshops\, in-studio lessons\, and handmade ceramics.\nThe monthly Gathering of Artists is hosted by the Ames Community Arts Council and made possible with the support of the City of Ames Commission on the Arts [COTA]. Additional support for this exhibit is provided by the Iowa Arts Council\, which exists within the Iowa Economic Development Authority. \nIf you would like more information about participating in or hosting a gathering\, please contact the Ames Community Arts Council by e-mailing info@amesart.org\, visiting the website at www.amesart.org\, or calling 515-259-0494.
