SUMMARY:Albert Benton Pullman: Railroad Pioneer and American Entrepreneur - Ames History Museum
DESCRIPTION:Albert Benton Pullman: Railroad Pioneer and American Entrepreneur \nTues.\, April 14\, 7 p.m. \nAttend in person: Ames History Museum\, 416 Douglas Ave.\nAttend online: register for the Zoom link\nFree & open to the public\nSpeaker: Simon Cordery \nThis talk details the life of an unjustly neglected Gilded Age figure. Older brother of the notorious George Pullman\, Albert Pullman made several crucial but forgotten contributions to the success of Pullman’s Palace Car Company and engaged in an erratic\, fascinating investment career. He personified the stratum of everyday entrepreneurs whose persistent\, frantic\, sometimes fraudulent\, and often unproductive investments undergirded economic activity. Albert Pullman’s frequently calamitous investments illustrate the precarious nature of Gilded Age capitalism beyond the well-known Robber Barons. \nYour Historians Series presented in partnership by Iowa State University Department of History and Ames History Museum

Bailey\, Professor of History and Distinguished Professor in Liberal Arts and Sciences\, Iowa State University: Dr. Bailey will discuss the famous witch hunt in Salem\, Massachusetts\, in 1692\, the largest witch hunt ever to take place in North America.
