Explore the crisp textures, subtle colors, and unique forms of dried plants and seed pods in this four-week watercolor workshop. Inspired by artists such as Dick Raugh and Julia Tricky, students will study botanical specimens through composition, value, lighting, and graphite drawing before developing their subjects in watercolor. You’ll explore underpainting, washes, mixing neutral colors, preserving highlights, and building rich mid tones and darks with drybrush techniques. No prior watercolor experience is necessary.

Please bring the following supplies to your class:
Watercolor Supply List
- 140 lb. (300 gsm) hot press watercolor paper, 9″ × 12″
- Basic watercolor paints, including:
- Yellow
- Yellow Ochre
- Red or Rose
- Burnt Sienna
- Ultramarine Blue
- Sap Green
- Burnt Umber
- Payne’s Gray or Neutral Tint
- 3–4 watercolor brushes in a variety of sizes
- HB or 2B pencil (Octagon will have some on hand)
- Kneaded eraser
The Octagon will provide: paper towels, water containers, plastic palettes, and a selection of gently used brushes. Students are welcome to use these, but may want to bring a few brushes they prefer working with.
